Thoughts of Peace (& Successful Oracle 12c Migrations) in 2016

As a member of the OnX Strategic Solutions Architect team, and resident Oracle ACE Director, I am thrilled to be in a role where I’m constantly learning, and exchanging ideas and insights with our clients about Oracle Database. In fact, I’ve been on the road since August, meeting with our Oracle database administrator colleagues and their staffs about the latest features of Oracle Database 12c Release 1.

During my travels, I’ve had the opportunity to explore the Oracle Database 12cR1 in depth as I’ve prepared for client meetings and engagements, and have shared findings with the greater Oracle community in a series of articles for the Independent Oracle Users Group’s (IOUG) SELECT Journal. If you would like to check out the latest article, “More In-Memory Magic: In-Memory Joins, In-Memory Aggregation and Advanced Index Compression in Oracle 12.1.0.2”, it’s featured in the SELECT Journal Third Quarter 2015 edition, or you can follow along with a series posts about Oracle Database trends on my personal blog, Generally, It Depends.

Speaking of the Oracle Database community…

We will be gathering with colleagues and clients during upcoming conferences including the Hotsos Symposium 2016 this coming March in Dallas, followed closely by a Las Vegas conference, COLLABORATE16, in April. If you’ve been tasked with gathering information and resources about Oracle 12c, these conferences are great places to connect with people who have already completed 12c evaluation through full production implementation, and are ready to share their stories. I’ve been tapped to present at these conferences, and look forward to the many conversations with attendees like you about why it’s a great time to consider moving to 12c.

Finally, it wouldn’t be the holiday season if I didn’t offer you a helping hand with your Oracle 12c questions. We’ve built a strong Oracle Database team here at OnX, and we’re available to help when you need more information or want to schedule a site visit to discuss how to effectively migrate or upgrade your database to Oracle 12c. Who knows, I might even bring along a copy of the Oracle Press book I co-authored with Edward Whalen, Oracle Database Upgrade, Migration & Transformation Tips & Techniques. It’s the least we could do for the exchange of ideas that will come out of our meeting, and hopefully make your next Oracle endeavor a raging success.

I look forward to seeing you in 2016! For now, have a safe, peaceful and joyous 2015 holiday season.
